JCB Garden Landscape undertakes a variety of tree contracts. This case involved the reduction of a large beech tree in a difficult site.

A tree survey had to be undertaken first, due to the tree being very close to a listed building. Once the planners were happy with the health and position of the tree we applied for planning to reduce the tree by 1/3 to reduce potential branches breaking off and the tree getting too large.

Planning passed, we assessed the access of the site. Access was tight with shops both sides of the entrance and a low roof to contend with. Shop owners were given advance notice of the works, and work started a week later. Tree climbers were used to provide safe access to climb the tree to start work. A visual inspection was undertaken, allowing the surgeon to lower branches safely to a ground crew.

Throughout the exercise, all staff wore helmets, safety boots, and high visibility jackets. Once the work had been completed the area was cleaned up and left the way we found it.
